Tiny whoops in India: the complete guide

Published
Read time9 min read

A tiny whoop is the FPV drone that fits Indian life: it flies inside a two-bedroom flat, it costs a few hundred rupees to crash, and it keeps you flying through monsoon months when every field is mud. This guide is the one page to read before you buy one. It links out to the detailed posts where you need depth, and it keeps the numbers in rupees.

FPV Grind is a whoop-first store in India, so we have an interest here. We also fly these every week, which is where the opinions come from.

What a tiny whoop is

A whoop is a palm-sized quadcopter with its props inside plastic ducts. The common classes are 65 mm and 75 mm, measured between motor centres, flown on 1S (one cell, about 3.7 V) or 2S packs. Dry weight sits between 20 and 40 g. You fly it through goggles or a phone screen, with a radio in Mode 2, and it bounces off walls and sofas instead of breaking them.

The ducts are the whole point. They protect the props, your furniture and the people in the room, and they are why a whoop is the one FPV craft you can learn on at home. Full anatomy and the size classes: what is a tiny whoop. How it compares with bigger craft: what size FPV drone should I get.

Why whoops fit India

  • Space. Most of us live in flats. A 65 mm whoop needs one cleared room; a 5-inch needs a field, a ride and permission. Flying in apartments and terraces covers the neighbour politics.
  • Weather. From June to September the fields are gone. Indoor whoop packs are how skills survive the monsoon: monsoon flying and storage.
  • Crash cost. A set of 31 mm props is ₹99 and a motor is ₹390. A 5-inch crash is an arm, an ESC and a weekend.
  • Noise. A 1S whoop is a loud hair dryer, not a chainsaw. Daytime sessions in a flat are usually fine; a 5-inch on a society terrace is a complaint letter.
  • Rules. Whoops are nano-class, which keeps the paperwork away (see the rules section below).

What a first whoop costs in India (October 2026)

Linked items are our prices on the Bench as this is written; the rest are typical Indian street prices. All of them move with stock. Three honest paths:

PathWhat you buyPriceWho it suits
KitCetus Pro kit: whoop, radio, goggles, charger, packs₹22,990You own nothing and want to fly this week
BNF + radioMobula6 1S ELRS about ₹8,990 + RadioMaster Pocket ELRS ₹8,390₹17,380 (goggles separate)You want a radio that outlives the whoop
Parts buildFirst Whoop Under ₹8k recipe: frame, 1S AIO, four 0802 motors, props, one packabout ₹5,900You own a radio and goggles and want repair skills

Whichever path, add the spares on day one. One pack and one prop set turns the first weekend into a single flight.

Day-one sparesPrice
4-pack of 1S 450 mAh BT2.0 packs₹1,890
31 mm tri-blade props, 8 pcs₹169
1S USB charger (if not in the kit)about ₹500
Metal prop tool₹290

So a kit pilot is in for about ₹25,000 all in, a BNF pilot about ₹20,000 plus goggles, and a builder under ₹9,000 with spares. Goggles are the big variable: kit goggles are enough to learn on, and entry standalone analog goggles such as the Fat Shark Recon V3 run about ₹13,000. The parts, and what to look for

Everything on a whoop has to agree on three things before you pay: cell count (1S or 2S), connector (BT2.0 or PH2.0) and radio protocol (ELRS). Grind Lab checks this for you; the posts below explain why.

Batteries and the LiPo shipping problem

LiPos are the one whoop part India makes hard. Lithium packs move by surface transport only inside the country, and no international courier wants loose packs, so a battery order takes a week or two, not a day. Plan around it:

  1. Buy a fleet. Four packs is the floor, six to eight is comfortable. Whoop flights are a few minutes each. How many LiPos for FPV.
  2. Pick one connector for the whole fleet and never buy adapters. BT2.0 vs PH2.0.
  3. Reorder at two healthy packs, not zero. LiPo shipping rules in India.
  4. Charge attended, store at 3.8 V per cell, keep packs out of hot scooters and balconies. Charge safely · store LiPos · how long LiPos last.

Where to buy, and what to import

Keep consumables domestic: props, packs, ducts, screws, connectors, and ideally motors. Crash tax needs resupply in days. Durables such as cameras, HD units and a specific flight controller can be imported if you can wait and accept duty. Never import batteries.

Before you pay anywhere, check cell count, connector, protocol and prop size against what you own, ask for a GST invoice, and take an unboxing video. The rules, in short

Whoops weigh under 250 g, which puts them in the nano class under the Drone Rules 2021. Flown as a hobby, nano drones do not need registration, a UIN or a remote pilot certificate. Airspace still applies: red zones around airports and sensitive sites are off limits, yellow zones need permission, and the Digital Sky map is the reference. Flying indoors is a courtesy question with the people you share walls with, not an aviation one.

This is a summary, not legal advice, and rules change. Read DGCA drone rules pilots should know and do I need a licence to fly an FPV drone in India, then check the official sources before any outdoor flight.

How to learn, in order

  1. Simulator first. The free browser sim runs on a laptop or phone with no install. Hover for 30 seconds, yaw a box, land softly, until it is boring. FPV simulator before your first whoop.
  2. Bind and bench. Bind ELRS, set an arm switch you cannot bump, check motor direction with props off. Bind a whoop to your radio · Betaflight setup for a tiny whoop.
  3. Ten calm packs. Hover, land, disarm. Then slow figure-eights. How to fly an FPV drone for beginners · how to hover · how to fly indoors.
  4. Acro when hover is boring. Angle mode is the training wheels; Acro is the hobby. Acro mode · beginner rates.
  5. Outdoors when access is real. A calm park with a 75 mm, a field with friends for anything bigger. Which build first.

The spares shelf and crash repair

A whoop pilot's shelf, per quad: eight props in two profiles, six packs, a spare duct set or frame, one spare motor, an M1.4 screw kit and a prop tool. It costs less than a BNF and turns a crash night into a five-minute repair. Tiny whoop parts in India · how to fix a crashed whoop · replace a whoop motor · BNF upgrades worth doing.

Find pilots in your city

Ten minutes on a mentor's spare whoop teaches more than a week of spec sheets. Every FPV Grind city page has an open group you can join with your account, plus where to fly, when the weather allows it and the local airspace notes: Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kochi, Chandigarh and Lucknow. All cities: find FPV pilots near you.

Bottom line

Buy a ducted 65 mm 1S whoop on ELRS, four packs on one connector, two sets of props and a charger. Learn on the sim, then in a cleared room, then outdoors when a field and a friend are real. Keep consumables domestic, order batteries early, and join the group in your city. That is the whole hobby for the first three months, and it costs less than a phone.

FAQ

What is a tiny whoop?
A palm-sized FPV quadcopter with ducted props, usually 65 mm or 75 mm between motors, flown on 1S or 2S LiPo packs through goggles. It weighs 20 to 40 g, bounces off furniture instead of breaking it, and is the craft most Indian pilots learn on because it can be flown inside a flat.
How much does a tiny whoop cost in India?
Around ₹23,000 for a complete kit with radio and goggles, about ₹17,500 for a BNF whoop plus an ELRS radio if you already have goggles or will use a phone screen, or under ₹7,000 for a parts build if you own a radio and goggles. Add ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 for a 4-pack of batteries, spare props and a USB charger. Prices are from The Bench in October 2026 and move with stock.
Do I need a licence to fly a tiny whoop in India?
Whoops weigh under 250 g, which puts them in the nano class under the Drone Rules 2021. Nano drones flown for fun do not need registration or a remote pilot certificate, but airspace zones still apply: stay out of red and yellow zones on the Digital Sky map, away from airports and crowds. This is a summary, not legal advice; check the current rules before you fly outdoors.
Can I fly a tiny whoop inside an apartment?
Yes, and it is the main way Indian pilots practise. Clear a room of glass and pets, use a ducted frame, keep sessions short and daytime, and stop the moment someone at home asks. A 65 mm 1S whoop is quiet enough for most flats; a 2S or open-prop whoop is a terrace or park craft.
Kit, BNF or build: which first whoop is right?
A kit if you own nothing and want to fly this week. An ELRS BNF if you already have a radio or want one that outlives the whoop. A parts build if you want repair skills and exact parts, and have a soldering iron. Most first-timers in Indian flats are best served by a ducted 65 mm 1S whoop on either of the first two paths.
