How to pick whoop props

Props are consumables. On a tiny whoop they are also your first tuning lever and your first crash tax. The right prop is the size that fits the frame, the blade count that matches your motors and flying style, and the spare packs sitting in the drawer before you need them.

FPV Grind’s rule: match stock first, stock spares second, chase Instagram colors never. Wrong props rub ducts, overheat motors, and make beginners blame “bad PIDs” when the hardware is fighting itself.

Do not chase Instagram prop colors. Chase fitment and stock of spares. If you change blade count, change one variable at a time and feel a few packs before you touch rates.

Decision rules (keep it boring)

1. Same size as stock unless you know why you are changing
2. Same blade count as stock for the first 20 packs
3. Order 2–3 sets with the quad (minimum)
4. After a crash: replace chipped props before the next pack
5. If motors run hot: try lighter props or check KV match

  • Props are the easiest domestic consumable - keep 2–3 sets at home so monsoon shipping delays do not ground you.
  • Order props in the same cart as the whoop; waiting for a ₹200 prop kills a weekend.
  • Match the ecosystem you fly: 65mm ducted kits almost always want 31mm; do not “upgrade” to 40mm because a listing looked punchy.

Session habit

Before every pack:
□ Spin each prop by hand - no rub
□ Look for chips on leading edges
□ Confirm CW/CCW on correct motors

After a hard hit:
□ Replace the damaged prop (or full set if unsure)
□ Check motor shaft for bend
□ Short hover before freestyle
